Senor Longface

I rocked a sketch of a face a little while ago, and I was pretty happy with it. Usually I paint something straight away but this time around I decided to sit on it and save it for a new spot, instead of wasting it on people who wouldn't be grateful. So after sitting on it for a minute, I got asked if I'd join in on a wall in Melbourne and I figured it would be the perfect time to rock.

This is it.

3 posts in 4 years...

Pretty piss poor effort on my part, but how about a little catch up. Well, with regards to painting I've done a few projects i'm pretty proud of, so I'll post a few photos here. The first one a fairly quick portrait of a giant gorilla face, which was a lighting study I painted a few months ago.

Bits and pieces from 2011

The first image is a mad scientist character i did in early 2011 and the one i had the most positive feedback about. It's also one that i thought i spent too long on, and found I over complicated the colouring process yet again. I do however like the concept of looking at a wall, and recognizing a fun way to paint, rather than turning up to the wall with a sketch and forcing your idea onto it.

The second image was one of my favourite characters from 2011. It only took me about half an hour to do the first sketch and select my colours, and then another hour to paint the bunny on the wall. I played fairly fast and loose with the design and execution, in an attempt to stop myself from over complicating the whole process. One of the major changes i made was only using 1 fill colour per section, and shading with only blacks and whites. As simple as the whole approach is, i found it far more fun to execute.

For those of you who are from Ballarat you can find these works behind BBQ's Galore in Armstrong Street, in a little section of legals that i have behind there. You can also see some of my other work behind the westpac bank next door.
